Ski Board Registry was founded in 2025 to help solve an alarming problem within the snow sports community—the large number of skis and snowboards that go missing each season without any realistic recovery options.

I first started skiing in 2013 and had a unnerving experience early on, our friend’s brand new snowboard was stolen at a local resort. We were running into the restroom and told by an employee we had to leave our gear outside. There were no checks or racks…he promised he would keep an eye on our gear. Only a few minutes later we came out to find both the employee and board were gone. Despite filing reports with the resort and police, his board was never seen again. We were told it was one of a dozen stolen that day. An expensive lesson learned vicariously and ever since it left me concerned for my quiver of skis that I have worked so hard to acquire. Regular insurance does not cover theft and at such a large expense to replace, can easily ruin a trip and/or your season.

Over the years, as social media grew, I kept seeing post after post online of lost, missing or stolen skis and boards. Some were accidentally left behind, or the wrong pair was taken…and others were purely theft. With the high cost of gear and the lack of a recovery system this left a major gap that needed to be filled in our community. All this prompted me to try to come up with a process to help your gear find its way back home again.
