The Story Behind Ski Board Registry
A First-of-Its-Kind, Purpose-Built Gear Registry for Skiers & Snowboarders
Ski Board Registry was founded in 2025 to help address a growing problem within the snow sports community — the increasing number of skis and snowboards that go missing each season with little to no realistic recovery options.
I first started skiing in 2013 and had an unsettling experience early on when a friend’s brand-new snowboard was stolen at a local resort. We stepped away briefly to use the restroom and were told by an employee that we needed to leave our gear outside. The employee assured us they would keep an eye on it. Only minutes later, both the employee and the snowboard were gone.
Despite filing reports with the resort and local police, the board was never recovered. We were later told it was one of more than a dozen stolen that same day. It was an expensive and frustrating lesson — one that stayed with me as my own ski collection grew over time. Replacing high-value gear is costly, insurance coverage is often limited, and a single theft can easily disrupt an entire trip or season.
Years later, while recovering from a ski-related knee injury, I found myself spending more time observing snow sports communities online. During roughly a one-month period, I closely followed multiple ski and snowboard groups and consistently saw hundreds of posts from individuals searching for missing, lost, or stolen gear. Some items were accidentally taken, others left behind, and many were outright theft. In nearly every case, the outcome was the same — little to no chance of recovery.
It became clear that there was a major gap in the snow sports community: a lack of an accessible, centralized way to establish ownership and help reconnect recovered gear with its rightful owner.
Ski Board Registry was created to fill that gap. The platform provides a simple, cost-effective way to register skis and snowboards, create verifiable proof of ownership, and improve recovery odds if gear goes missing. While no system can guarantee return, registration adds an important layer of protection and accountability that has long been missing in snow sports.
Ski Board Registry was built by a skier, for skiers and snowboarders — with the goal to “help your gear find its way back home”.
